Jade Regent 1: The Brinewall Legacy Additional Encounter

Goblin Ronin (CR 2)
Before Brinestump Caverns (Area L, page 20).
When a group of Licktoad goblins came to The Brinestump Caverns a week ago they carried away a treasure horde of potions and fireworks. Scattered around the caves they found rusted pieces of Tien armor and weapons – the possessions of Tsutamu’s fellow soldiers that died to the faceless stalkers 24 years ago.

When Tsutamu’s spirit and those of his soldiers returned to their skeletal remains several of the goblins began to exhibit strange behaviour. Spat, Guf , Nub, Chug and Braht had each looted a tarnished wakizashi from the cave – each one razor-sharp despite the rust. Little did they know that the swords were infused with the souls of fallen Tien warriors. At first they impressed Chief Gutwad with displays of new-found swordsmanship – even if Gutwad described the blades as dogslicers for females! Two days later the five goblins started interjecting strange words into conversations. A day later they were talking fluent Tien and the rest of the tribe, suspecting sorcery threw them out of the village. As the days passed and fully under the influence of the dead soldier spirits, the five found themselves drawn back to Brinestump Caverns. Compelled to protect the cave they spent their time recovering pieces of Tien armor.

As the PCs approach, five ludicrous figures step out from behind the trees to guard the cave. Each of the goblins is dressed in massively oversized Tien armor and holds a rusty sword. Crazy goblin faces peer out from beneath insect like helmets. The middle goblin slowly draws a line in the dirt with his sword grinning wildly at the PCs. Another, giggling with pleasure displays a soggy Desnan candle with a lit taper. The firework wielding goblin (Chug) breaks into a frantic run towards the PCs and makes it a full half way before tripping over his armor! The firework flies through the air and explodes in a mass of white smoke and sparks.

Creatures: Spat, Guf, Nub, Chug and Braht charge into the smoke attacking with a surprising combination of martial prowess and goblin lunacy. The smoke creates an area of concealment 50’ across (treat as a fog cloud) that lasts for 10 rounds.
