25 Rules – Save DC of a Spell

25 Rules – Save DC of a Spell

The Short Version

Spell DC = 10 +the level of the spell + relevant class ability score modifier

The Long Version

  • Relevant class ability score modifier:
    • Intelligence for wizards, alchemist, magus, witch
    • Charisma for bard, paladin, sorcerer, oracle, summoner
    • Wisdom for cleric, druid, ranger, inquisitor
  • If a spell is usable by multiple classes at different levels then the level of the spell is the one used to actually cast this instance of the spell.
  • Feats can add a bonus to the caster level check. Examples:
    • Spell Focus feat adds +1 to the DC and Greater Spell Focus adds +2 to the DC of a spell for one school of magic.
    • Heighten Spell meta-magic feat changes the level at which a spell is cast thus adding a bonus to the DC.
  • A target can voluntarily drop its resistance and become the target for any spell even if it has a general or specific resistance to magic.
